It is a tough day to be an Auburn Tiger. It is days like this that really put into perspective our consuming passion with sports. It is people that matter and what all of us do with our lives that matters. It is how we treat other people. It is not the sports we play and watch. They are momentary distractions and escapes. It is incredibly sad that the death that brings us this perspective was the voice of our beloved team. Rod Bramblett is an Auburn icon. It started with "Go crazy Cadillac!" and then came the winning kick in the national championship game.
We then got the "Immaculate Deflection" and then Rob Bramblett made the greatest call in Auburn sports history on the "Kick Six" play. All along that journey I heard many times what a great guy he was long before this sad day. The stories continue to pour in now and you can see what great people him and his wife Paula were. My good friend just texted me a picture of Rod and his wife at the Rose Bowl. He said he was so gracious and down to earth. I think that is how he will be remembered. For me, those great calls will mean a little bit more and not let us forget what really matters.
Prayers for the Bramblett family especially their children.
